Today's mainstream or bottled Thousand Island dressing is miles from what was created by a fishing guide's wife at the turn of the 20th century. The "islands" (flavorful bits of onion, relish, and egg) have been all but wiped out over time. But in this recipe they're back ? a tribute both to flavor and the dressing's home in the island-rich lake area of upstate New York....
