Malt Loaf
450g/1lb plain flour
2tsp yeast
1tsp salt
225g/8oz sultanas
25g/1oz butter
2tbsp black treacle
4tbsp malt extract
1tsp soft dark brown sugar
225ml/8floz warm water

1. Sift the flour, yeats and salt into a large bowl.
2. in a small pan gently heat the butter, treacle and malt extract until the butter has just melted. In a jug combine the water and sugar.
3. When the butter mixture is just warm pour into the flour mixture along with the water and combine thoroughly.
4. Turn out into a well greased 1kg/2lb loaf tin, cover with greased foil and leave in a warm place until the dough reaches the top of the tin.
5.Bake in a oven preheated to 190*C/375*F/Gas 5 for 25 mins, cover with foil then bake for a further 20 mins.
6. remove form the tin and leave to cool on a wire rack. Serve cut into slices and spread with butter.
